Sample itinerary is based on New York departure utilizing Ghana Airways. Departure and return days will vary per itinerary depending on airline utilized and originating airport. All itineraries are tentative and subject to change.

Day 1: Friday

Depart JFK International Airport, New York on a Ghana Airways 4.00 p.m. flight to Accra, Ghana.

Day 2: Saturday

Arrival at Kotoka International Airport at 6.00 a.m. Upon completion of immigration and customs formalities, you will be met by our tour guide and transferred to your hotel. A brief orientation with refreshments will take place.

After resting till the early afternoon, we will embark on a city tour of Accra, the capital city of Ghana. Accra, is a fast growing metropolis with a blend of Victorian and modern architecture. Venues of interest include the Artist Alliance and a visit to the workshop of coffin makers featured in the National Geographic magazine. We will also drive through the campuses of Achimota Secondary School and the University of Ghana, at Legon. Asi Ocanseyıs Tye and Dye fabric shop will be our last stop, where fabric can be purchased for custom designed African fashions.

Evening Welcome Dinner with a cultural performance and fashion show. During the show, you can order custom made African fashions.

Day 3: Sunday

After breakfast, the morning will be spent at leisure. Early afternoon departure to Akosombo for a cruise on the Volta Lake, one of the largest man made lakes in the world. Upon arrival in Akosombo, we will go on a brief city tour and stop at the Akosombo Dam.

After the city tour, we will head to the Volta Hotel to view the picturesque scenery of the area and have refreshments. At 4.00 p.m. we will start our cruise on the Volta Lake and be entertained by a Highlife (Ghanaian Music) band.

Upon completion of the cruise we will return to Accra. After dinner the evening will be spent at leisure.

Day 4: Monday

Today we continue our tour of Accra. Ghana played a pioneering role in the struggle by African countries to gain independence from colonialist. A visit to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Park and the W.E.B. Du Bois Center for Pan Africanism, will give us insight into the countryıs struggle for independence and how these pioneers, namely Dubois, Marcus Garvey, George Padmore and Kwame Nkrumah led the movement to unite the Nations of Africa. Our last stop will be at the Arts Center to shop for various arts, crafts, fashions and jewelry. ure.

Day 5: Tuesday

After an early morning breakfast and check out of our hotel, we will drive towards the lush green mountainous area of the Akwapim Ridge to the Aburi Botanical Gardens. As we ascend, temperatures fall and Accra and Tema Metropolitan areas serve as a backdrop. The garden is home to 375 different species of Flora and attracts a lot of birds and butterflies, adding to its beauty. A unique attraction is a Ceiba Pentandra (Silk Cotton) tree, which survived from the forest that existed at the site 120 years ago.

After lunch, we will descend from the mountainous range and head towards Gomoah Fetteh to spend the afternoon at White Sands Beach Resort. Spend the afternoon relaxing on the palm fringed, golden sand beach or engaging in a variety of water recreational sports activities. We will relax on the beach till the late afternoon before embarking on a scenic drive along the Atlantic Ocean to Cape Coast. Upon arrival, we will check into our hotel.

Day 6: Wednesday

After breakfast we will start our city tour of Cape Coast. Christian missionaries, who settled along the coast of Ghana during the Colonial era, established a large number of Secondary Schools (boarding high schools) in Cape Coast, which form a central part of the Ghana education system. After visiting a couple of these schools, we will also visit the University of Cape Coast.

Our tour and lecture on Slavery in Ghana starts with a visit to Cape Coast Castle, classified as a United Nations World Heritage Site. This European Fort was constructed for use as a trading post and administrative center for European colonialists, but was later utilized as a holding point for Africans captured and shipped to a life of Slavery in the Americas and Caribbean. This will be an opportunity to revisit history and bear witness to "Slavery, A crime against Humanity" After our tour of the castle, we will transfer to our hotel and check in.

Day 7: Thursday

After breakfast, the group will visit Kakum National Park to experience the exhilarating heights and views from the Canopy Walk, a bridge suspended more than 100 feet above the floor of a tropical rainforest.

After a buffet lunch at the Park, we will proceed to Elmina (St. Georges) Castle, another European Fort classified as a United Nations World Heritage Site. After touring the castle, group members can head out to see the local fishing harbor and market located just outside the castle. After the castle tour, the group will return to our hotel. After dinner the evening will be spent at leisure.

After dinner, the evening will be spent sampling nightlife in Kumasi.

Day 8: Friday

Early morning breakfast and check out of hotel. Depart on a drive to Kumasi, the former administrative center of the Ashanti (Asante) Kingdom and current capital city of the Ashanti Region. On the way, we will stop at Assin Manso and visit Nkonkoso, the Slave River where captured Africans were afforded their last bath before being shipped off as slaves to the Americas. We will also stop at the Monument of Return located at the tomb of Samuel Carson from the US and Crystal from Jamaica, African Ancestors/Slaves returned to the motherland.

After this brief stop over, we will continue driving north towards Kumasi. The group will arrive in Kumasi in the mid-afternoon and transfer to our hotel. After lunch, the afternoon will be spent at leisure.

After dinner, the evening will be spent at leisure or sampling nightlife in Kumasi.

Day 9: Saturday

After breakfast, we will start our city tour of Kumasi. Kumasi, is the second largest city in Ghana, the center of agricultural production in the country and a distribution hub for transportation of goods and services. Venues of interests include the Kumasi Cultural Center, a visit to Manhyiaa Palace and Museum, the residence of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of the Ashantis (Asantes), to learn about the history and culture of the Ashanti people. We will also visit the Akomfo Anokye Memorial and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

Our last stop on the city tour will be at Ejisu Bisease to see a restored Ashanti Shrine designated as a United Nations World Heritage Site.

After dinner, the evening will be spent at leisure or sampling nightlife in Kumasi.

Day 10: Sunday

After breakfast we will start our tour of the Ashanti Region by visiting the various craft villages to see Asanteheneıs royal court appointed craftsman and artisans at work creating Kente Cloth at Bonwire Village. We will also tour the Wood Carving craft village of Ahwiaa to see craftsmen and artisans creating various wood carvings and sculptures and the village of Ntonsu to see how Adinkra Cloth is made. Kente and Adinkra Cloth are symbolic of Ashanti (Asante) history and culture and can be purchased as great gift items.

After spending the entire day shopping for arts, crafts, fabric and jewelry, we will return to our hotel in the early evening. After dinner, the evening will be spent at leisure.

Day 11: Monday

After breakfast, the group will check out of the hotel and start the return journey to Accra. We will drive through the Grain belt of Ghana where most of the Cocoa farms are located. Ghana is one of the worldıs largest producers of Cocoa, which is used in producing chocolate.

We will arrive in Accra in the mid-afternoon and check in to our hotel. The rest of the afternoon will be spent relaxing and recuperating from our road trip. After dinner, the evening will be spent at leisure.

Day 12: Tuesday

The last day of the tour will be spent at leisure engaging in independent activity or packaging arts and crafts purchased during the tour for the return flight to New York.

In the evening, the group will have a Farewell Dinner at a private facility. After dinner, the evening will be spent completing packing for our return flight. Tour group members should settle all hotel bills and check out of their rooms before going to bed.

Day 13: Wednesday

After an early morning breakfast, the group will check out of the hotel and transfer to Kotoka International Airport at 3.00 a.m. to check in for the 6.30 a.m. flight to New York.

The flight arrives at JFK International Airport at 1.30 p.m. on the same day. Upon arrival, transfer to connecting flights or rides home.
